It takes skill and a very specific 'determination to animate' to even begin making a puppet film. The first signs of a re-emergence of classic style Russian puppet animation, the staging of a wildly successful international puppet animation conference in Estonia and the release of record numbers of wonderful indie puppet films inspired us to focus on this most hands-on of techniques.

Specifically programmed towards 4-10-year old's whilst still entertaining more mature patrons, this screening gives children the world's best animation for a just $5! Pricing includes adults.

In addition to programming these festivals, Turner visits many of the major festivals around the world, sits on juries, presents at conferences and maintains an extensive international network of contacts in the international creative animation community. All of this gives him a front row seat to current trends, shifting styles and raging debates within the world of indie animation. Turner will present a comprehensive snapshot of the animated year that has lead up to AIAF 08 complete with a screening of unusual films that caught his attention along the way.

Animating in Australia is as challenging as any occupation. Australian animators are creating world beating creative films as well as working in ads, music videos, gaming and on-line. AIAF in Wagga Wagga is the first comprehensive collection of Australian animation to screen each year. AIAF's co-directors use the experience of pulling the Australian Panorama together combined with their extensive knowledge of the broader Australian animation creative, commercial and funding scenes to present a "State of the Animated Nation" address, with a special focus on the films selected for screening in AIAF 08.
Filmmakers with a film in the festival will be encouraged to participate in the address and there will be screenings of recently made commercial works as well as excerpts from works in progress. We are thrilled to announce John Lewis will be presenting his trilogy of stop-motion short films including The Birdhouse, The Boy Who Wanted to Touch the Moon, and his latest award-winning creation - The Designer.

Australian animation turns up in festivals all over the world and is recognised for its diversity and inventiveness. This program showcases that diversity - every technique, genre and style imaginable; classic tales, documentaries, abstract and comedies. It's all here in this collection that will premiere here in Wagga Wagga before heading off for screenings around Australia and the world.

Crazed, weird, extreme or just impossible to explain plots - a boggling compendium of the wildest animated ideas horse whipped up to warp speed and transponded back from parallel universes.

Creator of "Dr Pebbles" (in the Australian Panorama) & currently working on Adam Elliot's feature film, Pierce Davison has been making animation since he was a teenager. His indie films have screened all over the world. Just one striking feature of "Dr Pebbles" is the menagerie of voice talent including such celebrity 'appearances' as Shaun Micallef and John Safran. Wrangling, directing and capturing just the right voices in just the right ways can be a make or break for the final result and Pierce will share his experiences bringing this aspect of directing an animated film together.

The creators of award winning film "Fraught" and the presenters of the popular "Starting Out" workshop at last year's AIAF return to Wagga Wagga to bring news of their latest exploits, a 'work-in-progress' screening of their current project ("Supermarket Musical Massacre") and to outline the crucial role storyboarding plays in the 'start to finish' process of filmmaking - especially the kind of low budget, hands on filmmaking that D.I.Y. Art are renowned for.
