AIAF2004

2004 was the year that the International Animation Festival established AIAF and moved to the Wagga Wagga Civic Theatre in order to make the festival as open to the community as possible. The festival featured double the films for half the price and spanned two nights of original material from the world's best in animation. We awed at imagery beyond your wildest imagination and laughed at humorous tales of fantastic characters. We had everything from the latest Aardman classic Creature Comforts "Cats or Dogs" to the breathtaking patience of "Oio", a film that took 11 years, 540l of paint, 56 colours, 33000 digitised images. The festival just secured complete and uncut the legendary work of John Kricfalusi of Ren & Stimpy fame! This special retrospective is especially selected in consultation with the filmmaker and will guarantee the most extreme night of entertainment you've ever seen in animation. To say this was a program of anarchic madness, irreverent taboo busting and visceral body-part doodling is a bit like saying Ren is just a cartoon dog. Regardless of whether you're an animator, artist, film buff, video junky, or just plain curious, this was major event you didn't want to miss!

- UNCUT Animation Madness with John Kricfalusi

You probably remember Ren and Stimpy, the huge cult series from 1990 that only lasted a few months before being pulled by the television broadcasters. In this special retrospective - especially selected in consultation with the filmmaker - we look back at Kricfalusi's films. IAF goes bad as we meet characters such as Jimmy The Idiot Boy, He-Hog The Atomic Pig and Weekend Pussy Hunt. And while we're at it, we'll show a couple of Ren & Stimpy episodes that you won't have seen before (one of them is brand new and doesn't sound like it's gonna get on the TV screen in its current form). To say this is a program of anarchic madness, irreverent taboo busting and visceral body-part doodling is a bit like saying Ren is just a cartoon dog. Buckle up! "I always try to find what the taboos are, and I'll try to break them. That's part of my personality. But that's not what holds it together. If anything characterises my style, it's the intense emotional content of the characters' interactions. That's what I try to do more than anything else, to make the characters really believe in their motives" John Kricfalusi 2001.
